Reddit, what is a secret that you are not supposed to know?

The county treasurer (or whatever it's called) is likely stealing funds.

I got involved in a local wrongful conviction case doing fundraising, writing articles, that kind of thing, so I was in contact with the attorneys and other innocence workers on the case. One of the people working with the innocence organization decided to get the financial records from the county to see if they could track down any leads through looking at what the prosecution was spending their funds on. It was a very expensive case, so there were lots and lots of files to go through. So she goes to the courthouse and requests the files. He tells her no and there's some special process she needs to go through. I don't remember what it was, but it involved calling first I think. So then the next day she goes through that process and when she gets to the courthouse, he's abruptly left for the day, so she can't get the files. He then decides to take the next week off.

So when he comes back, the whole thing starts again. She gets to the courthouse, but there's some other process that she needs to do, like a written request. So she writes the request, but oops, it needs to be typed. It was becoming obvious very quickly that he was giving her the run around. So she took him in front of a judge and that judge threw the book at him. She had a right to see these files and the judge ordered him to give them to her. Long story short, it turns out that right after she started asking for them, he started destroying files. Apparently, legally he has a right to do so after a certain period of time and those files were old enough that he had a legal right to destroy them, but it sure is suspicious that he chose that moment to clear out space. She ended up getting some of them, but he destroyed quite a bit. I can't prove it, but he's clearly hiding something.
