Redditers who changed thier destructive habits (over eating, drinking, etc.) and became active and healthy, what made you decide to change and how did you start?

I was resting a beer on my stomach at a get together after a friend had died. My brother said “dam bro your fat” Realized I was going to die if I didn’t find a way out of this hole. My dad bought me a gym membership and went with me and I just put a hoody on and headphones in and started working off the weight I had gained and making changes to adjust my lifestyle. Did research and bought/read books and learned everything I could.

290 at my peak weight nothing crazy, but still horribly overweight at 39% Bf. 8 years later I’m a solid 190 with a B.S in exercise science and working helping kids change their lives for the better, helping athletes with strength and conditioning, and helping general population find themselves and beat goals.

Best thing to do is take a step in the direction you want. Imagine who you want to be and start being that person. Don’t fight the old, build up the new.
