Redditor perfectly explains the mind of your typical Trump voter, using his brother as an example.

I'm pretty much the opposite of a trump voter, I'm a pretty stereotypical Northeast to liberal. And it shocks me that so many people think people who voted for Trump are idiots.

Over the last 30-40 years we've had Democrats and Republicans all over the (current) political spectrum as president and in control of the house and senate. Here's the two big trends that have been consistent:

  • Almost all politicians have had their campaigns paid for, almost entirely, but the richest Americans. The top 1% of the top 1% contribute around 40% of all campaign money.
  • Statistically Congress, regardless of who is in control, represent the rich. The views of most Americans have no statistical correlation with what legislation gets passed.
  • The real income and wealth of almost all Americans has declined, while the richest Americans have seen huge increases in both.

For most Americans, for the basic issues of having your issues represented and having the economy work for you, it doesn't matter who gets elected. Whoever we vote for the big trends will stay the same. Given the facts, why not vote for Trump? Sure he's a billionaire who claims to support average Americans and will then just work for the rich. But that's true of everyone to one degree or another. At least he's entertaining and not a politician and blames someone else.

If it doesn't really matter who you vote for, why not vote for the guy who's as different as possible?
