Redditors who answer a question, but don’t upvote it after, why do you do this?

Maybe I'm crazy, but I look at these questions as actual conversations between individuals (the asker and the answerer). To me, the point of upvoting is the hope that more people will see something (or the opposite being true for downvoting—that fewer people will see something).

To me, answering a question from an individual and then upvoting the thread itself would be similar to answering a question irl and then announcing to all within earshot, "Gather 'round. I have a story to tell." And I find that to be rather annoying, borderline arrogant.

I honestly didn't realize there was an expectation to upvote a thread after answering the question here either. I've upvoted threads when I wanted to see more answers, but I really couldn't care less if the masses see mine. They're not the one asking the question. OP is.

One thing I'm thankful to have learned about reddit early on is that it's exponentially more enjoyable when points are disregarded. If you want more people to see something, upvote it. If you want fewer people to see something, downvote it. But actually tracking the numbers themselves makes for a very Facebook-like experience to me.
