Redditors who are at home scrolling through Reddit instead of celebrating the new year, why?

Loaned my longtime friend money ($280) to cover his rent. He said he was getting paid on Thursday. Friday rolled around and didn't hear anything back from him. Called him three times and texted him a bunch, messaged him online. Then, he updates online that he hit 'a jackpot' at the casino. Yep. He went to the casino and used his money on slot machines. I 'liked' the post so he knew I saw it. He then deleted the post and messaged me, saying he spent his winnings already.

I told him I'm now going to be short on rent, and he just went off on me, saying that I shouldn't throw it back in his face when he has kids and I don't. He then told me to get money from my 'rich mom' who lives on about $300 a month in a small studio.

So I'm staying in since a) I have no money b) I work online and c) I need to work all day/night for the next three days and might not even make rent to pay on the 4th, which thank god is the last day I can pay it in my state.
