Redditors who have been scammed via a phone call, what happened?

Didn’t happen to me but I used to work at a grocery store that did money orders and Western Unions. One day a customer came in asking to transfer $2,000 to Nigeria. Now, this customer was kind of stupid for falling for this scam, but the person that called him said that if he sent him money, he would transfer $500,000 back. This customer has already transferred like $1,000, and the person was asking for more money. For some reason (I believe to help get information to fill out the Western Union) the customer had the scammer on the phone. There was an account number that the customer didn’t know, so he gave the phone to me to talk to the guy. I was suspicious initially, so of course I didn’t play along, but I asked how the scammer knew the guy, and he said that they were cousins. I asked the customer to verify, and he said he didn’t know who the guy was. When I hung up on the scammer and explained to the customer that this was a scam, the poor guy was so disappointed. He was already out $1,000 for the first transfer he did, and he wasn’t getting his $500,000 he was promised.
