Redditors who completed a medical abortion -what was it like and what is your advice?

Hello! Just want to say, I wish you the best where ever you go. While I have never gotten an abortion myself, one of my closest friends recently got a abortion through pills. I know I know, if you don't feel comfortable with a secondary source I completely understand, but I was one of the very few people she told, and ended up being part of the process. I just want to see if I could help at all!

We are close friends through church, for some background. She is 16 and told very few people. In Canada you probably have much easier access to methods, but we're in a conservative state so we had to take a different route. She ended up calling an abortion hotline and realized she didn't have the money for the operation, so ended up opting for the pills. There are no actual "abortion pills" though. Many times, it is like sort some or vitamin supplement, etc, etc, what not that makes the body miscarriage. The ones she took are actually sold as horse tablets for stronger bones. Yep, for horses. If you are worried about privacy, this can help as you can buy these products that are not outright "abortion pills". There were roughly sixty bucks through a specialty pet store and I helped pay for half. Now, this is because again "labeled" abortion pills need a whole doctors prescription, parents consent etc(and $150 subcharge) but in reality are the same exact thing as, for example, horse pills.

We got this information through another abortion hotline. I could not be present when she took them, but she knew she was going to call 911 the second anything went way out of control. She described it as starting as "the worst period cramps you've ever had" and then spiraling into something much more painful. Your body is basically going into labor with the medication. She told me later that pain came in waves, and that she had a water bottle nearby and basically just sat on the toilet. The whole thing took about 2 hours and a half, with the worst of it happening in the last 35 minutes or so. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING ELSE WITH IT. Just don't!

Oh and almost forgot. There is a complicated procedure to take the pills; I believe for her she took roughly 12 pills, letting four dissolve in her mouth per hour or what not. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOURS. EVERY PRESCRIPTION IS DIFFERENT! Just remember its not "one and done" its a few taken in intervals.

At the end of it, she felt something drop and stood up and saw blood, alot of it. She was early in her abortion(3 weeks) so she didn't expect a full figure or what not. The blood wasn't too insane though, if it's like a non-stop geyser then get help! Just remember that the lining of the uterine is very rich in blood, so with the miscarriage expect quite a bit. Very little blood means the miscarriage did not take place.

She called me around this time and told me all that happened, on the toilet. When the first drop happened her pain subsided dramatically, but a heavy ache was still there. She ended up bleeding much more afterwards, which meant that whatever was leftover was getting out. She stood up and saw a very thick glob of blood and tissue in the toliet and knew that was basically it. She ended up just flushing- the fetus is quite early so with a strong flush it can be easily get rid of. If your toliet is weak, you might have to use a plunger or just use a container instead of the toliet. She then drank a crap load of water and slept on a old towel in sweats- there will be bleeding afterwards. I saw her the next day, and she said she still had slow aches, but it was steadily getting better. She felt like her body kind of got beaten up :/. She wore a pad because she was still having a period type flow afterwards, which is normal.

She ended up ditching work, texting me that she felt like shit. I can't say for sure how she felt, but I'm sure emotions will not be super cheery after an event like this.

Just get a lot of rest and drink alot of liquids. Relax and let it happen. If not going as planned, you might have to get a physical abortion. Have someone trusted near you for help in case some crazy shit happens and you need to go to the hospital.
