Redditors who don't drink alcohol- What are your reasons for not drinking?

I come from a family of alcoholism. I was using it to cope with a lot of things in my life and it wasn't until my brother unexpectedly passed away that I realized alcohol has never and will never solve my problems. I drank heavily the first year after he passed away but then finally something clicked. I was done feeling sick and drinking was not going to bring my brother back into existence. I was prolonging my grief and now I am in therapy and working through it all.

Quitting alcohol is the best thing I've ever done for myself and I think my brother would be so proud of me. I lost him 4 years ago, and I'm going to be sober 2 years this August after 10+ years of binge drinking.
