Redditors who found passion for a new hobby in adulthood, how did you discover it?

I do genealogy and family tree stuff. I enjoy it. I got into it because dad wanted to learn more about the “ancestors” but he didn’t know how to use computers and the internet.

It was a way to help him out and connect with my dad, spend time together. We did it for over ten years.

Now that he has passed away, I find it to be an enjoyable way to keep his memory alive by keeping the information, photos and stories and family history safe and alive. Most of the stuff l’ve archuved can’t be found anywhere else. You can’t google “childhood stories of my Uncle Bill.” But I have ten, and someday my kids, grandkids and maybe beyond will have them and know my dad, my family and our lives long gone.
