Yeah that’s not ok. In Australia, you’re technically not allowed to leave your kids at school more than 15 minutes before school starts or 15 mins after it ends. If you can’t collect your kid in that time, you are supposed to utilize what is called “Out of School Hours” care (or OSH club), which every school offers and from what I remember, is government subsidized and about $20ish/day at absolute most (when I last checked, it was about $6 for 7am-8:45am but more expensive for after school).

It is frustrating seeing kids arrives parentless at 8am or 8:15am but I would usually tell them to sit on the steps outside the classroom and read or play quietly. I couldn’t allow them into the classroom because of liability and I wouldn’t be in the room for the whole time. But I’d NEVER tell the kid off, if it happens multiple times I’d definitely be calling or emailing the parents to let them know!
