Redditors who grew up filthy rich, what did you think was normal till your learned otherwise?

My brother actually "faked" this growing up because he thought it would help him fit in during high school.

My parents aren't "filthy rich" by any means, but my bro is 10 years younger than me so by the time he was coming up it was live in nanny from birth, Montessori at 3, private academy for middle school... then we get to high school and he pitches a fit saying he wants to go public for it. Literally first thing we'd ever see him "pitch a fit" for ever...

Freshman year: Mom drops him off in the Jag each morning. By the second week he's got her dropping him off 6 blocks away so he can walk into school.

16: Parent's give him a brand new Mini Cooper for his birthday (again not "filthy" rich). That lasts about a week before he garages it, buys himself a $1500 pick up, installs cow catcher, gun rack, mud tires, emergency lights, confederate flag (We live in TN)... Drives it exclusively until graduating college.

18: Gets accepted to 2 different Ivy's, goes to minor public college to follow his "girlfriend". It's 3 hours from home so parents buy him a 4br/3bath house as a high school graduation gift. To "keep up appearances" he "rents" from himself and takes in 3 roommates charging them "the same rent he pays". Works full time for 4 years of college so he can "make rent" (again, he's renting from HIMSELF) and "pay for college" (he's on full ride scholarship)

College graduation: Fiancee (they finally got together) still has a semester left so he kicks out the roommates, takes part of the $150,000 in "rent" he's saved up and starts renovating the house. She graduates, he sells house for twice what parents originally paid for it, they get married, tour europe for a month, and they buy a 1/2 million dollar house "in cash" upon getting back.

Sounds like complete and utter bullshit, yet 100% exactly what happened.

TL;DR shit like this definitely happens. Sometimes it's the parents but sometimes it's the kids as well.
