Redditors who grew up or are growing up wealthy, how has the wealth affected you, both positively and negatively?

Depends on your definition of wealth. My family was quite well off and still is.

I have a very large family and my dads side are the ones very well off. We have a doctor, lawyer, pharmacist, and other professionals. Out of all of the 30 cousins all but one lead very affluent lives except for one who got into drugs and she is a mess.

My moms side is poor and they all work blue collar jobs (if they have a job) and many are addicted to or recovering from some type of substance abuse.

My biggest take away is that growing up affluent has taught me that it is easier to be successful or achieve your own affluence. None of the family money on my dads side was given to the cousins, everyone made their money on their own. But the family being well off helped them achieve that lifestyle. I'm one of only two people who didn't go to college in that side of the family (the other being the drug addict) and I've still managed to start and grow a business and for the first time ever I surpassed $1M in sales in 2016.

My moms side showed me that being poor makes life much harder and when you're poor you often times don't have the drive or the ambition to get yourself out of being poor.
