Redditors who have lived at a "party house" where people would hang out at on Saturday nights, did you enjoy living there? What was your experience like?

I loved it personally. I lived with 10 of my closest friend for about two years. I don't know how else to structure this post since it's a series of discrete observations, I'm going to go with bullets.

  • I could walk downstairs and instantly be talking to someone I enjoyed talking to. I could head upstairs and suddenly be alone when I needed the space

  • A lot of resources would show up when needed. Need a wildly niche cable to connect your 2002 technology to your modern blue tooth adapter? Pool together 10 or so cable collections of college kids and a little know-how, and anything was possible

  • It was kinda messy unless we were cleaning up before or after a party

  • Drunk sluts

  • we got a little bit of notoriety as well. We threw damn fine parties, and people knew. Invites were somewhat valuable, giving us some social leverage.

  • we charged men and women, and allowed a few personal friends per housemate free access. Average parties netted just under a hundred guests. This meant after paying for costs and setting money aside of the next party, we had money to put in house coffers. The parties funded our shared expenses and paid for "family" dinners occasionally. Our final two months together were rent free because of this.

  • There's no hiding your habits from one another, when a close knit friend group moves in together like that, for better or for worse.

  • You get to know your friends very well after living with them for two years. You learn how to confront problems you have with each other in ways that leave the house habitable and friendship intact afterwards.
