I didn't do the semester abroad. But my girlfriend did. My advice is break up. It killed my mental health worrying about someone on another continent having the time of her life.

So many things drain you. The time difference makes communication difficult. Also one person is living a unique life changing experience. They shouldn't be sitting on the phone or Skype talking to someone all the time. And it's really hard not to SEEM jealous or suspicious in those situations, even if you're not. You also worry about their safety all around.

It's fucking draining even for some very healthy relationships. Go have the time of your life, or let them go have theirs. And if you still want to be together when everyone is back then get back together.
