Redditors who have moved to a new city/state/country, what is the most infuriating "well, this is how it's done here" thing you've come across?

Moved to England from my home country, Brazil. The stereotype that Brazilians are typically warm and friendly people is for the most part, true. We'll strike up conversations with strangers wherever we are, we'll give our neighbours the shirt off our backs, we love being social and love making new friends. (Of course there's always exceptions to this and we do have our fair share of dickheads, every country does but that's not the point here.)

Here in England, if you're acting friendly, you're acting suspicious. When I was all smiles and striking up conversations with the person sat next to me on the tram, people thought I was either pissed or insane. I made a ton of people uncomfortable when I first came here. It didn't take me long to understand that I was supposed to be mind my own business on the bus/tram/train, talking to strangers was a taboo (unless making extremely small talk), and if you smiled at someone you were a creep. That was hard to adjust to but I've lived here for 11 years now, I've gotten well used to it.
