Redditors who have saved someone's life, why did you do it? Do you regret it? [Serious]

Don't know if this counts, but it may.

One day at work after a large meeting, one of my employees whom I had worked with, but didn't know too well came up to our desk and stated he was going to go home. The whole time, he looked forlorn and maybe a little sick. I asked if everything was ok and tried to do a little digging for the problem. Just before he left, he told one of my leads, "I just think I'm going to go home and kill myself." Before we knew it, he was gone (left work).

I thought i had overheard him say it, but it was hard to tell. I got his number from HR and tried calling him but to no avail. Eventually, I found him on Facebook and managed to message him there. We talked for a while on FB messenger then finally got ahold of him on the phone. The dude was going through some serious shit with his ex threatening to take his daughter away, his dad was alcoholic, and a lot of other things going on. He ended up taking 2 weeks off which HR wanted to fire him for. I said fuck that and told him how to beat it.

Couple months later, he stated he was feeling funny and had tingling on one side of his face. Took him to the "nurse's office" at our work, eventually had him go to the hospital. Turned out he had a couple mini strokes. Poor guy was 22 when all this happened.

Eventually he quit, but i tried to keep in contact just to check in on him. We eventually lost touch though. After not hearing from him for a while, I got a random FB message thanking me for saving his life. He said he was at home looking at his gun when I hit him up on FB.

Whether he would have gone through it or not, I don't know. Depression is one hell of a thing, man...
