Redditors who survived or were close to a big terror attack (9/11/ columbine shooting/...), how do you feel about all these memes out there about terror in general?

Memes are exactly that, memes. Can't get butt hurt about it. I lived right outside NYC and my dad worked in the trade towers from 1990-2000. I do kinda think it's in bad taste when people post conspiracy shit, or memes on the anniversary. Since a lot of family friends died that day.

My dad has since passed, but had a pretty bad ass 9/11 day. So here's a bit of a story time.

My dad worked for Cantor Fitzgerald in the World Trade Center. He was there for the first failed attack with the bombs in the garage. He then proceeded to get shit faced with his friends claiming they "beat death". At the time my dad had switched companies but was only a block away from WTC. He carpooled with his friend every morning from NJ. His friend and him had just dropped the car off in a garage that valets. Well they walk out of the garage and the first plane hits. Now my dad claims he new it right away that it was an attack and told his friend they had to leave immediately. His friend didn't budge at first, mainly because he had an important meeting at 9am and it was a quarter to.

After my dad finally convinced his friend, they looked to get their car back. But all the attendants were no where to be found. So my dad and his friend go into the booth/office looking for the keys. They find the keys and see that they're boxed in. So they have to find the keys to a random car, move it, and then finally get their car out.

They get on the road and the second plane hits the other tower as they're headed for the Holland Tunnel. At this point NYPD is shutting the island down. They somehow get in the tunnel, and my dad said they were probably doing 120mph. They honestly thought a bomb was going to go off on a bridge or a tunnel. So they went as fast as they could.

I then meet my dad at the same time in the driveway of the house. I had just walked home from school since they dismissed us after the second plane hit.

My dad lost tons of friends and colleagues. Mainly his best childhood friend. What always got me was when he told me that they use to joke around. Saying that they should all have parachutes under their desks incase of a fire.
