Redditors who have used Ancestry.com or similar sites, what is the most interesting thing you've found out about your ancestry?

Mitford is a common middle name in my family, because we are descendants of the Mitford family. Nancy and Jessica were well-known authors. Jessica and Deborah Mitford married nephews of Winston Churchill and Harold Macmillian.

Diana Mitford married into the Guinness family and cheated on him with who would become her second husband, he was the leader of the British Union of Fascists. Unity Mitford lost her virginity to this man Oswold Mosley despite him being married at the time and having an affair with her sister, its believed the Diana actually encouraged them to have sex.

Not to be outdone by her sister, Unity Mitford became obsessed with Hitler essentially became his stalker and later became part of his circle of friends (funnily enough she was conceived in the town of Swastika, Ontario). A report described her as "More Nazi than the Nazis" Hitler reportedly played her off to make his then girlfriend jealous. It was reported that once visiting him in his apartments, she found champagne and candles, where she though he was going to seduce her he actually questioned her about all the affairs she had with his SS men. He then ordered her to continue the affairs and then retell them to him at later dates.

Hitler later convinced her that they could only be together in death, that was encouraged by Count Almasy who she later had sexual encounters with (it has been suggested he once had an affair with her brother Tom). She later tried to kill herself with a bullet to the brain, but she survived.

Unity actually had a documentary made about her called "Hitler's British Girl"
