The person who commented was being dismissive of the point I was raising. Essentially telling me that if I have a problem with people being nostalgic about the name and if seeing that makes me like the team less, then I should not be a fan of the team (rather than those who are making the subtly racist posts changing or being pushed out). That person is giving space to those who are making subtly racist posts. Why might they do that? Why would they feel so inclined to stand up for that position that they would comment?

We all need to be more conscious of how racism proliferates our society and even the things we love, even if we may not look at something as inherently racist.

Everyone has racist thoughts and tendencies, if we don’t work to identify them, how can we expect things to change?
