Reflections on 2015: Self-Improvement

sure, why not:

to be honest i haven't logged a lot of hours into playing melee but i've watched a ton of the game, even if much of it was just for entertainment. i started watching around mlg anaheim in 2014, but only started playing a little before tbh4 and started taking the game seriously and competing in tournaments only in late march of this year.

i feel ok about my rate of improvement. in may there were people who used to nearly jv5 me and i've gotten to the level where i can consistently take games off of them. i've heard people say that i improve very quickly. regardless i haven't pushed myself anywhere near as hard as i could go, so i'm not completely satisfied. i've been to four or five tournaments in my entire life, so i'm definitely planning on going out to locals on at least a biweekly basis starting next year. i think i could be competitive with PRed players in my region by june if i keep pushing myself, but it's really hard to do that between anxiety and finishing my major at university. it doesn't help that i live pretty far from most of the biggest locals, so it'd be pretty difficult to go to them consistently.

as far as long term goals go i want to take a set off a PRed player in my region by the end of 2016. i think i can do it. i also want to settle on a character between fox, sheik, and marth as soon as possible. my fox is by far my strongest character since he's my ‘main’ and i pretty much exclusively use fox in tournament unless i'm sandbagging with dk. i really like fox but i have more fun with the other characters and i think i need some time to work out whether that's because there's a certain novelty to going sheik/marth after tons of friendlies with fox or because the characters genuinely interest me more. probably gonna enter a few tournaments as solo-sheik or solo-marth to figure that out as soon as possible
