Reign of Fire - Before Christian Bale was Batman, and before Matthew McConaughey was a master detective, the two once teamed up to catch a dragon in the absolute worst possible way conceivable: by jumping on top of it from a helicopter.

I will tell you why I hate medical shows. Because the a large amount of the public is incredibly naive and believes that what happens on the television is an accurate depiction of how things are really done.
Ambulance fire and police personnel are always a evaluating is seen as we walk up to it. EMS personnel walk so that we do not run into a situation that has unknown factors that might make us become victims ourselves. If the rescuers become injured or incapacitated on a call, now you have BIG problems. You now have multiple patients, and reduced resources to help them. A lot of victims and rescuers have died because proper scene safety measures were not followed. When I was a paramedic intern my first code blue at an indoor soccer arena. One of the older players collapsed on the field, became unresponsive, and stopped breathing.

The crowd saw me walking my way calmly onto the field as I evaluated the scene and ensured the safety of myself and my crew. Unfortunately, Hollywood depicts every fucking medical professional as some kind of goddamn Olympic sprinter.
The crowd saw me walking to my patient and started to chant. "RUN, RUN, RUN." some of them even stomped their feet in rythm as if the game was still going. A young player grabbed me by the arm in order to rush me to the patient, i shook him off and continued my pace. The crowd saw this and went, fucking, nuts.

My first code blue as a paramedic and I was surrounded by hundreds of people in the bleachers yelling and screaming at me. Someone came over the loud speaker and asked the crowd to remain calm, but they would have none of it. They continued their chants and jeers, while we tried to help the patient. The police and security on standby formed a protective ring around us. It was the longest, most stressful 8 minutes of my life.

This is why I hate medical dramas, because often the public has this unrealistic view of what medical professionals actually do. That is why I can't watch them, because there are SO many people who cannot parse reality from bad fiction, because that's the only reference those people have of what we do.
