Is relatability killing the music industry?

Usually with boy bands, each member is meant to fill a certain "mold" to match up to a type of consumer. For One Direction: Louis was funny, Harry was the sexy desirable one, Zayn was the quiet one, Liam was the smart and sensible one, and Niall was also the funny one who seemed to just love food. Their sex appeal was 100% part of the package, but the relatability aspect came from their fake personalities and young age.

Today I can't think of many big music acts that are seen as "relatable." Maybe this is why the rise of "YouTube stars" and YouTuber music is happening. As Hollywood has gotten more corporate they've taken less risks with new acts, and had bigger restraints on what famous people can show of themselves (at least thats what I see). It does seem that all the biggest famous people are kind of swimming in circles. So to combat that, independent internet personalities have taken over the "relatable market." Not sure if this is the case, just a thought!
