Relationship Thursday for February 08, 2018

Oh god. I was the child of that parent. From 7-14, my mother worked in the US for 10 months and we only saw her for 6 weeks. I feel for your kid. Even after we finally lived together, the relationship didn't really recover. I have no memory of small acts of affections from my mother at that age. I probably blocked memories of our time together to make the frequent separations bearable. My relationship with my mother is respectful but not close.

I guess my only advice is let your kid know often and always that they are loved. Never say the mom is doing this for them. Never say the mom is doing this to maintain your lifestyle and pay for expenses. Never ever say those things. The kid will blame themselves for your suffering.

I wish you luck.
