Religion

well i mean there is a sense of empathy and a sense of community that stops people.

not everyone has either of those, and not all communities are the same

i literally neevr think about jail when the idea of killing someone comes up, just how absolutely awful i'd feel for killing someone, by accident or on purpose.

again, doesn't apply to everyone

religion on the other hand has get out of jail free cards that allow shitty people to justify shitty things, and im not talking about homophobia, murder etc. in catholicism, you can repent on your death bed and literally get away scott free

Okay, but if you're secular and spend your whole life doing shitty things, you'd be on your deathbed all the same and it'd be irrelevant if anyone forgave you or not

All I'm saying is, have a more nuanced and open minded approach to something that has been around for thousands of years. Yes, religion has lead to terrible things, but it's also lead to a lot of good as well. The world isn't black and white. You cannot fix or replace something by just bashing and criticizing it. You must first understand it.

Btw, i'm not religious at all, just to clear that up.
