Remarkably well-written article relating skydiving to risk-taking in a Covid world. They fumble with our jargon a little, but it's refreshing to see an article referencing skydiving that isn't completely terrible.

Damn. It directly mentions swooping is dangerous but I still want to do it. Is swooping actually that dangerous? I went to the safety day a few weeks ago and only 10 people died last year. Out of 3 million jumps? And half of those were health related like an old person having a heart attack while in the air. But 5-6 were low turns at low altitude.

I've seen people get fucked up and imagine it happens in swooping, but I'm just not seeing a lot of deaths. Hell, I know of about a similar number of deaths on dirt bikes last year and tons of huge injuries. I've broken a ton of shit and had moments in the air where I'm thinking to myself "i am fucked", only to be bailed out by good suspension and a bit of positioning at the last second. If you're just not being a complete idiot under the parachute and actually use your head, is swooping really all that bad?
