I work in an industrial field. The only affirmative action we get is that women tend to get preferential treatment due to their rarity.

Perhaps I can put it into terms that even you might understand. In the words of writer Andrew Hernández:

“Unfortunately, many white folks still misunderstand Affirmative Action as some kind of free meal ticket. Why? They rarely see all of the people of color who didn’t even get the chance to be considered for such a program.”

I'm not really white in the American conception of the term.

Affirmative Action programs are designed to help people of color access the schools and jobs from which they’ve been historically excluded. So no, my “screed” was not in any way “racist”, and anyone perceiving my original comment as anything other than factual and innocuous obviously has inherent bigotry and hatred for their nonwhite neighbors.
