This is the right track and Rem is 100% right on this one. The thing with Autism (and most personality disorders) is you cant really change who somebody is on a fundamental level. Further, many (not all) of the problems with something like Autism is the social consequences rather than the behaviors themselves. For example, Atypical Stimming is generally completely harmless but makes you out to look like a freak in public and incurs many negatives as a result.

Think of it as the difference between Cancer and a Speech Impediment. We say we cure cancer because we want to remove the cancer completely; no part of the person should be associated with cancer. We treat Speech Impediments, as in we provide tools to help alleviate issues but also recognize its a valid part of the person and teach the person radical self-acceptance (that its ok to stutter sometimes and theres no shame in that).
