Report examines why people stay in and leave Charm City

Thank god I'm not alone in this. I know it sounds horrible but the silver lining I took from this was that the surburbanization of Baltimore would slow down a lot with these riots. I'm hoping some people of color put their money where their mouths are, or artists manage to take over some real estate. I hate the fact that most of the property isn't being held by Baltimoreans. I too only want the committed to stay and reap the rewards. I pray that this does filter out all the "others". The only problem is that the people who want a stake in Baltimore need to step up.

Blacks complain all the time about being shut out of business, well here they have a grand opportunity and they need to put up or shut up. Where are the black elite? Right now a lot of stuff is held by owners who just sit on the property, buy it from them and start building.

I read an article somewhere about artists(and the hipsters who hang on to them) being able to control gentrification through ownership of the areas they turn around. It sounds great but is it possible?

It feels like those two groups are best able to keep the city cultured and urban, instead of Towson south(which is the path it's on now). I understand what you and I want but I don't think it possible without these two groups taking charge because compassionate capitalism is thought of as socialism, so we can't really trust these business owners who just want to make as much money as possible regardless of the effects.

We have to fight for what we want and in addition to attracting people who want to sink roots in Baltimore, we need those who already have roots here to start taking ownership of it.
