Republicans expected their tax plan to be popular by now (but it’s not)

My company changed my with-holding nearly immediately; I'm earning $200+ a month more now. I still think it's a stupid plan. As an average voter seeing an impact; I'm not mad that I will earn a few hundred a month more this year.

But my company (as a industry leader in a growing industry) is communicating out that we are shrinking budgets this year, all while our EBIT is beating our internal benchmarks, our company tax burden is decreasing, and we are gaining share in a growing market. What did my company do with this extra capital? Bought back stock, inflating our valuation - exactly what economists and liberal commentators were predicting companies would do.

Add in the fact that the money lost in revenue could have been spent in ways that would have been more productive for the economy; or they could have focused more of the stimulus on the lower income brackets to offset the damage done to the EITC over the years (and had a larger impact on consumer purchasing power, which I believe would be more effective at growing the economy). Or we could have just... you know, tried to run a balanced budget.

So yeah, not everyone who disapproves of the tax plan is ignorant of the meager benefits our $1.5 trillion in additional debt is providing; most of us just think the plan was bad policy.
