I completely agree. Similar topic, I found this podcast interview with Carol Anderson to be pretty insightful. The audio recording on the page is worth listening to for those who have time.

She really challenged some of the narratives I had about why democrats lost the 2016 election and helped me understand better that it's also connected to a long history of racism in the US. IIRC she also talks a fair amount about Alabama's voter ID laws as well as the recent Doug Jones/Roy Moore election.

I still can't get over that fucking 2013 SCOTUS ruling like "oh this law is great it works so well, therefore we don't need it anymore." SMH...
