[Request] 12,5℅ of US citizens are African American and f/m should be 50/50. 15 people on this picture are White females, the female ratio is definitely wrong but are they mathematically racist?

It gets a little more complicated beyond just statistic and kind of branches off into sociology.

There are some jobs that men apply for more than women, and vice versa ; as there are some jobs that certain race groups will apply to more or less because of cultural differences.

My best example would be Police Departments. Often police departments are dominated by statistic by Men, specifically white men. Most departments are over 70%+ men, and usually over 70%+ white. So people look at these numbers and say, "well fuck, police departments in America are pretty racist and sexist!!"

Actually though, if you look at hiring statistics, typically in most of these departments less than 10% of applicants are woman in the first place; because being a police officer, a physical and sometimes dangerous job, just doesn't attract as many women. Just like there are less female firefighter and military applicants. So if a department has 30% woman, that means they actually preferentially hired woman, because only 10% of the applicant pool was women in the first place; so really just 10% of the department should be woman to reflect that. The same is often true of other races, there are usually just much fewer black applicants than there are white; so departments often have to preferentially hire woman and different racial groups, over white applicants purposefully, to avoid looking biased, when really there is no bias...and that actually creates a bias against white men in doing so.

I'm not saying this is happening here; and they may very well be sexist and racist...I'm just saying it's not as simple as statistics when it comes to job demographics. This image probably wouldn't surprise you if it was teachers, because white woman by a long shot dominate that field. Perhaps it's the same for online journalism.
