In response to Greta, a parent in New Zealand gets real...

Imo this is the complete wrong way to do this.
If your child is trapped in an irrational belief-system, this might be climate-armageddon but also interest for cults like Scientology or be it the obsession with a boyband, you do not fight your child - you fight this belief-system. And this is a subtle fight. If you make life harder for your child in order to punish it for its beliefsystem the kid might rebel and only tighten its beliefs and distance from you as a parent even more.
This is a bit like the DPRK/Northkorea-effect. If you isolate them, punish them, lie about them and denounce them this will just encourage them to formulate a whole culture around opposition to you. Ask the parents of the 68ers ;)
A smart parent should be always supportive but subtle critical. As in: Do ask questions directly to your child about the structure and reasons for its beliefsystem as if you were really interested and use this to bring up the existing contradictions but in a way that the child stumbles across them on its own not by your demand. This is a hard job, and normally our public school systems should do this for us.
