Returned to Apple after 10 years with Windows, loving it.

You can find the difference between mac and pc in about three seconds if you go to any computer store. On a macbook, you can lift the lid with one finger, and the body won't lift off the table or slide. No windows laptop I've ever seen manages that. Why? Because apple too the time and money to design a hinge specifically for the laptop they were putting it in, and the windows OEM just grabbed any old hinge out of the parts bin.

That difference nicely exemplifies the general difference between windows and mac. Whereas microsoft and their OEMs will include a feature to check off a box, apple includes features to make their devices better to use, and thus puts the effort into actually accomplishing that. At Microsoft, they're building a laptop, so they need a hinge. Find a hinge. Job done. Box checked. They need to say they support display casting. They slap in a terrible, buggy, and unreliable Miracast implementation. Job done. Box checked. You need a notification center in windows, and it should be accessible with a trackpad gesture. Does it actually move in from the side of the screen with the gesture so that it feels nice to use, or does it pop in and out at some random point? Of course it's the second one, because that's easier to do. Job done. Box checked.

And so on for everything else. Sure android and windows let you do whatever you want, but they kind of have to. Yes, there are occasionally times where you can't do exactly what you want. But those times happen more frequently on windows and android, in my experience. I'd like to make windows not janky as fuck, and that's never gonna be up to me. I'd like to have something that works as well as airdrop, and that's never gonna be up to me. I'd like to share notifications and make calls and texts between my pc and phone, and while that's possible, nothing I've tried will come anywhere close to the level of integration and polish, or for that matter, reliability, that I get in the apple ecosystem. And I'd really like to fucking delete facebook off my phone, but that's not allowed. And nothing, nothing I ever do, will ever make WearOS run smoothly or be even slightly stable, nor will it ever make the software actually useful. It'll just keep backsliding, losing features and growing heavier. I mean, at least it was kind of good back in the days when it was Android Wear, but now it just doesn't do 90% of what made it useful back then. Google assistant is a joke, one made even less funny by the fact that google now was fantastic.

So yeah, it's nicer to use a mac because at every step, you get the distinct impression that they gave a fuck about what they were doing, and on windows and on android, you frequently get the distinct impression that they didn't give one solitary turdlet. And no amount of customization of the things they let you customize will ever actually come close to fixing that. They'll never let you get the control panel back. You'll never be able to customize your way out of microsoft shoveling junkware onto your computer. You'll never customize your way out of windows update doing whatever the fuck it wants (seriously, I can't tell you how many times I've had 24+ hour 3d prints interrupted by my computer rebooting after it had assured me 6 ways to sunday that I had disabled updating for the time being). Do I still use android and windows? Of course. Can't run VR off a macbook, and I don't have a thermal camera built into my iphone. But god am I getting sick of them.
