Returning to GW2; Trying sPVP; Need Advice

One thing that everyone seems to neglect, and that I always teach, to every new player is how to flee. This is important because if a battle is hopeless. You don't want to die. By fleeing, you can learn how to alleviate pressure off of you and then recover to go back to the fight. By escaping, you can go to a fight where you are needed most. So instead of a 1v1 fight, you can make it a 2v1 fight. It will also teach you to be aware of your surroundings. You don't want to fight 1v2 because you know you will die.

I do not teach how to beat classes. I feel that this is better off through tons of experiences in playing PvP. Fundamentally, to beat all classes is to outnumber them. Learning to escape is the best way to outnumber your foes.

You can escape through:

  • Teleports/shadowsteps onto ledges
  • Swiftness
  • Leaps

However, those may not be enough. You need to survive the pressure. By surviving pressure, you buy time to get a heal up so you don't die. You can do this by:

  • Immunity like blocks and evasions.
  • Stealth(With enough stealth, you can escape very easily.)
  • Disables like stun and knockbacks.
  • Soft CC like Chill and cripple.
  • Damage reduction through Weakness and protection.
  • Line of sighting. So that a projectile can't hit you.

You also want to scout out for potential enemies. Do you see another player coming? Do you think that you can take the pressure? No? Then run. Look at your mini-map. If you count there is 4 enemies, you can guess that the enemy is roaming. You should be aware of what may come.

For homework, go to a hotjoin/practice arena room and take a tour around the map. Learn some escape routes that you can use. If an enemy chases you, run away. Use those escape routes you learnt to escape the enemy grasp. No need to fight back. Just run.

Thief is the best class for escaping. You can easily pick and choose which area needs your help. You can easily escape from an enemy that keep trying to outnumber you. Choose a squishy target and kill them.
