Rey A Mary Sue?

Look Ghazi, you guys have no idea what composes a sue.

Let's see here.

  1. Luke wins by losing. He gets overpowered and electrocuted by a decrepit old man and only survives because his father runs to his rescue. He has to go out of his way to earn the respect of every character he runs into, he's outright treated as incompetent by Leia, Obi-Wan's ghost has to convince Yoda to train him, Han even reprimands him for backseat piloting the Falcon, thinking he has no idea what he's talking about.

  2. Han Solo serves the story as a foil to Luke. He is the Lancelot to Luke's Arthur. Where Luke is young, dumb and inexperienced Han is mature, clever and knows his way around the galaxy. As such, being a kind of Anti-Luke, he actively shuns the idea of earning people's respect. Look at what happens when they bring Leia back to the rebels. Han wants to take his "reward" (presumably money, but it could be anything It's unimportant) and run. It's only when his conscience overcomes him does he return to take a role as a hero.

  3. This text next to the Vader pic describes prequel Anakin who was a poorly written character, just like every other character in the prequels. Using characters from the prequels doesn't make your case very well. Now, if you want to talk about Vader in the original trilogy then fuck the same page, we're reading a whole different book. Vader in the Original Trilogy was mysterious, strong, physically and vocally intimidating, yet in a way he's shown as being vulnerable inside that suit. Think about this scene. Vader is shown as being hideously scarred inside that helmet, which gives the viewer an understanding of why he wears it. Think about Vader's position, he's kneeling. He's not in a position of dominance here, he's clearly weak and vulnerable.

Look, I'm fine with Rey being super competent and cool and beating up Stormtroopers and fixing broken shit, I'd just like to see her step back and give the other characters a chance to solve some problems. Every time something goes wrong Rey steps in to fix it, never Finn, never Han, never anyone else just Rey.

A character who can fix every problem is boring, you need to deprive that one character of some skills and give them to another character. Make Finn the dude who can fix the Falcon when it fucks up and let Rey be the one who can operate it's weapons. What I'm saying is, give the characters a chance to be a team instead of focusing on making one character the solitary MVP while the other characters just blow smoke in the background.
