Riot Games agrees to pay $100 million in settlement of class-action gender discrimination suit

This doesn’t make sense to me at all.

Their hiring practises skew applicants towards being male which on its own is entirely and completely fair.

But the lawsuit requires women who were successfully hired and therefore not affected by these hiring practises to be paid money based on how long they worked there??

I mean, I don’t even agree that Riot did anything wrong but even if you were among the group of people who have an issue with their hiring practises, doesn’t it make sense to pay out female applicants who failed to get a job?

This is like if an ex employee sued you for unfair dismissal so you pay out your current employees and not the guy who complained.

Riot had some serious issues with women in the past, I totally agree and I’m really glad that was dealt with, but this current settlement just wreaks of lawyers trying to squeeze money out of them for the sake of seeking a payday and not to alleviate any real problem.

People celebrating this settlement are also legitimately moronic, they are celebrating hiring practises which will result in the game being tangibly worse off because employees now don’t have to actually play the game to be hired. This is a sad day for everyone except the fat cat lawyers who made a bunch of money at everyone else’s expense.
