Not an exceptional story but a rival non the less, so me and this guy were friends for a long time, we'd both joke with each other and he was always nice when he came to the class (he trained at the school down the road) but although he trained only 2 days a week and I train 6 days a week he got his purple not long after I got my blue despite not being anywhere near the level our 2/3 stripe blue belts were.
I think the tension started when he came in as a fresh purple belt and we sparred for 6 minutes, and although it wasn't my intention because I certainly didn't expect it, I ended up smashing him, tapped him 3 times, had him in a crucifix, took his back 3/4 times, just complete domination. Then the next time I saw him and we sparred I wrapped him up again. Then after that he stopped talking to me when he dropped in and wouldn't come up to shake my hand or wave back when I waved at him, you know little things at first. Whenever we would spar I could feel him going all out and using his strength but trying to play it cool like he wasn't and he wouldn't say anything to me before or after or he would say as little as possible to me and would never so much as smile or look at me if he didn't have to, he just constantly had a screwed up face on him when we had to interact like he was annoyed with my presence.
I saw him a few weeks ago and he spoke to the guy i was sitting with but he completely blanked me then when we were drilling stuff I was trying to talk to him, like joke around like we used to but he just kept mocking what I was saying by repeating me but in a whiny voice and making exaggerated noises like 'uggggghhhhh' whenever I did anything on him and I don't know if he was trying to be funny back but he came across as a dick. Then we were positional sparring and at the end and we bumped into 2 other guys so I stopped, he stood up and said cool and I said do you want to keep going and he screwed up his face and held up his hand like I was being stupid and then said in a really condescending way 'no, its done' and then went and spoke to one of the other guys blatantly about it, then the second time around we go again this time i'm on top and i get pinned against the wall so I stand back and he looks at me again with his screw face and then looks away and shakes his head as im walking back to the line almost in disbelief that I would move away again like he did.
I wish we could still be friends because i hate this 'you dont exist' bullshit that teenage girls do but if he wants to keep it up im game, doesn't make me look bad smashing higher grades, cant wait for him to get his black belt
