Many years ago I was involved in a road rage incident where another driver took offense to something (I don’t know what) I did. They were trying to run me off the interstate at 80+ MPH.

I took the next exit to evade, and stopped at a red light 4 way intersection. I was in the middle of a 3 lane road with cars on all sides except the front. They proceeded to drive in the wrong lane to get in front of me and block me in. The driver jumped out and started banging on my windows and trying to open my door while shouting at me. Luckily the doors were all locked.

I pulled my pistol out, racked a round and kept it at the ready in case he broke the window. As soon as he saw the pistol he started yelling at me and telling me I would go to prison for threatening him with a gun. Then the light turned green, the other cars around me drove off and I was able to drive around his vehicle and leave.

He finally left and went another direction. Then a few minutes later the police called me saying the other driver had called them and reported me threatening him with a firearm. I pulled over, explained the whole situation and offered to come in and give a written statement. The officer on the phone said I was in the right, but to next time call them first. He wanted to know if I wanted to press charges against the other guy.

I didn’t press charges and never heard about the incident again. But to this day it still shakes me to think what would have happened if my doors hadn’t been locked or if he’d broken the window. I kind of wish I’d filed a report anyway just to get the traffic camera footage of the incident to have in case the other guy ever tried to take me to court
