Is rock the runway a modelling scam?

If this was a reputable company, they wouldn't be recruiting at a mall. Yes, people get scouted grabbing coffee, shopping, walking down the street, etc....but reputable agents/companies have a huge presence/events, or are very subtle with their recruiting. They want the best of the best, not some Jane Doe or John Doe they picked up at a mall.

If she's interested in modeling, she should:

1.) Read about how volatile the industry is, and how so few people make it big even after they are recruited to a reputable company. Not to mention the pressures to lose weight, pressures to consume drugs, and long days on set.

2.) Read about the short careers of models. There aren't many supermodels over 40 for a reason.

3.) Reflect on why she wants this. Is this a genuine passion for her, or a means to boost her confidence?

I wouldn't continue to give them any more money. Some of the claims to fame of this group are the people they've coached have been in a National Home Depot campaign, or were "featured" in a movie (i.e, had a small part). Not a company I would be working with if I had a passion for this industry, and was really trying to get my foot in the door.
