Rogue One is the first movie that got me interested in the Star Wars universe. How do other non-fans feel about it?

It made me rewatch the original trilogy, which I didn't like on the first viewing. Well, I just started with rewatching, but I enjoyed A New Hope way more than on my first viewing.

To be fair, I cared more about the characters in Rogue One, than the characters in A New Hope, especially Princess Leia. Her character is poorly done, in my opinion. It seems that they just wanted Darth Vader to be a great villain, but forgot how to make heroes less shallow and more interesting.

Rouge One explained some stuff about the original trilogy and put everything into its own place. Now, I was actually pretty satisfied when Rebels destroyed the Death Star in A New Hope. We see how much the rebels sacrificed to get the plans for the Death Star to their leaders, we saw a pissed of and no-bullshit Darth Vader. The hallway scene at the end was really good, the despair on the faces of the rebels was real, they knew that they have no chance. I am biased towards Rogue One, but it's a movie that might make a Star Wars fan out of me.
