Ron is an awesome friend

No, she is uncomfortable. She purposefully doesn't talk about that part of her life because she knows it will be met with a negative response from Ron. After GoF she is writing back and forth with Krum. Only when Ron forces her hand to reveal who she is writing to does she tell Ron and Harry with apprehension.

This is a set of circumstances that I can point to where Ron has toxic behaviour towards Hermione. The "I can't have her so nobody can" kind of patriarchal toxicity.

Looking back at GoF I recall Hermione being pretty happy going with Krum to the ball. She was having fun with Krum at the ball. Hermione doesn't owe anything to Ron and yet he feels entitled to her as her date. Even after this incredibly shitty dialogue:

"......But Ron was staring at Hermione as though suddenly seeing her in a whole new light.

"Hermione, Neville's right- you are a girl......."

"Oh well spotted" she replied acidly.

"Well- you can come with one of us!"

"No, I can't," snapped Hermione.

"Oh come on," he said impatiently, "we need partners, we're going to look really stupid if we haven't got any, everyone else has............."

"I can't come with you," said Hermione, now blushing, "because I'm already going with someone."

"No you're not!" said Ron. "You just said that to get rid of Neville!"

"Oh did I?" said Hermione, and her eyes flashing dangerously" Just because it's taken you three years to notice, Ron doesn't mean no one else has spotted I am girl!"

His behaviour at the ball would certainly constitute as possessive. Yes he is jealous. Yes he is insecure. But that doesn't excuse his attempt to manipulate Hermione into feeling guilty for going to the ball with Krum. He didn't have any sort of issue with Krum until he learned that he asked her out on the date. Then all of the sudden "how could you go with the enemy?"

In reality he didn't think that anyone else might really want to ask her out, and he didn't think that she might want to go out with anyone else. He figured she would just wait around, and be grateful when he decided to ask her as a friend. And then she showed that she had the capacity to be independent and Ron's response was "How could you!"
