[Rosenthal] Robinson Chirinos deal with #Astros is for one year, $5.75M. Pending physical, which takes place today.

Simply not true; McCann gave us a season at 106 OPS+ in 2017 during our title run. Chirinos has not come close to that before. He only had a 97 OPS+ season last year and that was with the most power he has ever shown (in other words, a fluke.. unless he is juicing you do not find your power at 35).

Chirinos has mediocre defense, is not exactly good at framing pitches, and while it is hard to judge his ability to call a good game considering the bad staff he had to work with over the past few years.. you certainly can't assume it will be a positive either. In return you get a mediocre league average bat. The most positive thing you can say about Chirinos is that he did not cost very much.

Keeping an open mind because maybe we had to go cheap in order to bring on multiple other elite acquisitions like Pollak + Goldy + Eovaldi. Obviously can't judge a move like this in total isolation.. but when you have money to spend (fat media contract, record attendance, saved money and tanked for most of a decade..) and there are still multiple truly elite difference makers at the position available, it is hard not to be a little salty about this.
