Roses are vegan, the future is now

Let's start with the fact I'm not a utilitarian, that implies that I believe there is some kind a measure to the goodness of things, I do not. All measures of goodness are completely arbitrary, there are so many injustices throughout history that were justified because it was "the right thing to do". I personally think that people should decide for themselves what matters because if they don't somebody will do it for them. Just look at how many republicans believe Trump's ravings. Secondly, that argument is quite a common argument against utilitarianism. The answer some utilitarians would give is that people don't care if what they think the world is like reflects a world they want, they only care that the world is the way they want it. To go behind someone's back and make it not so is still a slight and negatively impacts them, so it's not a purely positive action. Now onto the prisoner bit. Who decided that the criminals are actually bad and that the punishment is fair and just? There are thousands of people in prison for marijuana offences. Yet, many states are legalising it, is that fair on the people in prison for having it? Maybe, maybe not, I'm not here to argue that. But the point is that you can replace that issue with any crime you think is unfairly punished, and now the prisoners become just as innocent as the cows.
