Female, 57, 5'5, 130 and otherwise wonderfully healthy. Hypothyroidism 25 years+ well under control.

In early August I noticed my upper, inner arms were itchy and dry. There were water issues in our community and we were under boil water order for weeks. I attributed dry skin to that but even when the water was returned to normal it remained itchy, regardless of moisturizers. I make my own detergent, do not use perfumes, did not change any lotions, or get new clothing or even change my diet.

Within a month the skin had thickened and a flat, light brown mottled rash appeared that looked like big freckles, but pale. It burned when I put my arms up and was itchy. I continued to moisturize by by mid- Sept I noticed almost over night that a similar, burning but much darker rash had appeared on my upper thighs.

At this point I decided I better see a doctor and although I like her, she was not very knowledgeable but gave me steroid cream, and ran some tests for scleroderma and morphea as well as celiac rash.

Three weeks later I noticed it was spreading down my inner thighs and to the back of my knees. Now everything burns when I stretch that particular part of skin, it itches and feels like I am wearing the pickiest wool long johns 24/7.

The cream is not doing anything but I continue to use it as it seems to be doing no harm and for all I know, maybe it is keeping it at bay.

Unfortunately in some respects, I live in Canada and she has made an appointment for me with a lcal skin specialist who can see me in MARCH!

The second time I visited my doctors office I pressed upon her to find something sooner so she contacted a specialist in a city an hour away and I jsut got noticed that they can see me IN MARCH, 2 weeks later than the local guy. I asked about the tests she had run and she said there was nothing there to point to scleroderma or morphea or cleiacs.

Now I just want to know .. is this serious enough for me to go and blow a bit of a fit? Or maybe try another GP on the chance thatthey might know what it is?

I had poured over rash pictures (which requires a pretty strong stomach let me say!) and to be honest it looks very much like toasted skin syndrome but I have no source of heat. I work online all day but my laptop is 4-5 feet away and i use an external keyboard and mouse. I have never been in constant contact with a stove or fire or even fireplace.

If anyone has an idea what it could be, or if I should try to get my case accelerated I would appreciate it. I hate to think what I might look like by March and by then it might not be reversible
