There are probably just as many if not more funny writers. It's just they won't be getting those jobs because

A. They aren't as easy to work with.

B. Aren't trying to make the desired content that is being produced so they aren't considered.

The industry wants low risk consistent content that follows measurable trends so there is a great amount of predictability to reduce potential costs and achieve predictable revenue. Which isn't overall unique to film and television. They also need to do this on a international scale not just national.

You don't know if different will make money until somebody lets the wrong person plan something. Then you have to upend your current direction if it's successful.
