Only once did I see someone freak out at hearing "Merry Christmas" from a cashier. I was working at the big blue store with the stupid spark logo. I was just walking by when I hear a cashier say Merry Christmas to a customer with a shopping cart full of groceries. The customer flipped the fuck out. They went on a long rant about how discriminating it was to assume everyone celebrated Christmas, and what about people who weren't Christian, etc. I went and got the assistant manager, who was able to convince the person to just leave. After the customer had left, I was walking away and heard the cashier say to the manager "I only said 'Merry Christmas' because the lady talked about how she was buying a ton of groceries for Christmas dinner."

Tl;Dr crazy people will freakout no matter what you do.
