Royal B.C. Museum sees rush for last look at Old Town before it's dismantled

the thing that irritates me the most about this conversation is the smug people who think this is a right vs. left position and that righties being wound up makes the RBCM's decision the de facto lefty position.

you literally have one person in this thread saying 'this is what you get when SJWs run administrative positions' while you have others saying we need to decolonize etc etc.

but the main issue here remains that the RBCM itself, THE VERY INSTITUTION ITSELF, is the problem. the institution was found to be racist, its staff were implicated in a YEARS-LONG study that looked at the toxic and racist culture in the museum.

the Old Town changes are the result of those people BEING CAUGHT. this has nothing to do with the RBCM being SJWs, nor does it have anything to do with an effort to decolonize. this is purely an effort for a bunch of legacy employees to protect their pensions and jobs by scrambling to create a distraction.

none of these stories are about the recommendations to fix the racist shit that was going on at the museum. none of this has anything to do with the Indigenous collections department which was crying foul in the first place. This is a completely unrelated department being changed so people can protect their jobs and say hey, we're making changes!

meanwhile, the actual changes that were called for are buried under a pile of screeching white women and men on reddit, arguing over a different part of the museum that just happens to be on the same floor lol
