Rules of Thumb I've Developed

Formatted for easier reading:

1) Not eating until I'm REALLY hungry. Assuming your health permits it. Water/tea are good passovers. I come from a culture of 16 hour fasting so I know that hunger comes in phases. If you push through the first layer, you survive.

2) Eating food I REALLY enjoy but leaving the desire for more in my mouth before I leave the table.

3) Moving dishes with half-eaten food away from sight (or I'd be tempted to 'finish'). Similarly, portioning out snacks BEFORE I eat any.

4) Adding smaller portions/eye-balling.

5) Only eating part of my lunch during lunch-time and the remaining as a snack.

6) Having dinner like a king because I really enjoy lots of calories at night (~600-800 calories). Breakfast is usually very light (~200 calories).

7) Using half of everything - half a sausage, half a pita-bread, half a slice of cheese for the non-dinner meals. Mostly because my calorie goal is quite low.

8) BULKING up foods with low-caloric foods. Think lots of cabbage, broccoli, veggies. That way, I have little space for the high calorie stuff. Oddly enough, I eat the veggies before i get to the 'good' parts so this works out.

9) Think of food as resources. You can earn more by working out. You can save to splurge. Lots like personal finance (I love personal finance so this bit helps).
