The Runner-on-Second in Extras Rule Has Worn Out Its Welcome

it shortens the game too little for the author's liking

this one was so poorly articulated too. it shortened games last year, but not as much this year. and the author showed that runs per game are way down this year, which the author even acknowledges will contribute to more extra inning games. i don't see why the author doesn't just posit that maybe lower runs per game will also lead to longer extra inning games, even with the rule in place, or that we've still seen fewer games this year than last. i think with a normal ball, as we saw last season, it does shorten games the desired amount. that it's harder to score at all, even with the extra runner, is obviously making a difference in game time this year compared to last, and needs to be acknowledged.
