Wrestling has always been about memes though, we just didn’t call it that. The Rock used to say “finally, The Rock, HAS COME BACK, to [whatever city they’re in]!” every single week, and audience would say it along with him. That is literally a meme, and if you ever went to local shows back then there would always be T-shirts for whatever city they’re in. I still have my “Finally the Rock has come back to layeth the Smacketh Down in Sacramento” shirt. It’s a shirt because it’s a meme, and it’s sold.
Rusev Day shirts were a top merch seller. Call it a “meme” if you will, but whatever it was, it was money. Why would they do literally anything but follow the money?
